Updated on 09 November 2025

SASSA Status Check: What works in 2025

  • ✅ The official SRD portal — the only true way to check your SRD R370 (SRD R350 previously) status online: srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
  • ⚠️ WhatsApp gives info and links you to the portal, no status check: 082 054 0016
  • ⚠️ Unofficial apps exist with mixed efficacy. For safety, always use the official website above.
  • ⚠️ USSD/SMS is not supported. Codes you see online are old and not reliable. Use the website for real results.

  2. Enter your ID and your cellphone number
  3. Click Submit
  4. View your monthly status: Pending / Approved / Declined

Other channels people ask about (what they actually do)

  • WhatsApp (official info channel) — gives FAQs and links; it redirects you to the SRD website for full monthly results. Open 082 054 0016.
  • USSD / SMS — codes listed online are legacy/unreliable for full month‑by‑month status; use the official website.
  • Moya App — may show partial info or link out; always verify on the official portal.
  • GovChat — provides forms/links; not authoritative for month‑by‑month SRD results.

For security, always confirm you’re on srd.sassa.gov.za before entering details.

About the SRD R370 grant

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant helps adults who have no income or support with a monthly grant of R370, previously R350. It is assessed every month. This is different from SASSA’s main grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, Care Dependency, Foster Child, War Veterans), which are long‑term grants paid at the start of the month. Learn more about other grants here: Old Age, Disability, Child Support, Care Dependency, Foster Child, War Veterans.

What your SRD status means

  • Pending: SASSA is still verifying your details. Check again after a few days.
  • Approved: You’re approved for the indicated month. Payment will follow in the payment window.
  • Declined: Not approved for that month. Read the reason and consider an appeal.
  • Approved - No Pay Date: You’re approved but payout is not yet scheduled. It should reflect soon.

Status messages you may see

  • Pending DHA Verification: Your details are being verified with Home Affairs.
  • Identity Verification Failed / Referred: The ID details you provided did not match Home Affairs records. Double‑check your ID, names, and surname.
  • Awaiting Identity Verification: Identity checks are queued. Check back later.

Approved – No Pay Date (what it means)

Your R370 SRD is approved for the month but the payment is not yet scheduled. The payday appears during the window; banks may add 2–3 working days.

Identity Verification Failed / Referred / Awaiting DHA

Home Affairs/eKYC checks didn’t match or are pending. Recheck ID/name/surname; complete any selfie/eKYC prompts quickly.

Self-Exclusion / Alternative Income / UIF / NSFAS registered

Flagged for possible income/benefit conflicts. Appeal with proof (e.g., bank statements showing no income).

Who is eligible for the SRD R370 grant? (November 2025)

You qualify for the R370 grant if you are 18–59, a South African citizen or legal resident, have insufficient income, receive no other government support (SASSA grants, UIF, or NSFAS), and apply using your own verified ID and cellphone number. Detailed requirements:

  • Age and residency: You are 18–59 and live in South Africa
  • Legal status: You are a South African citizen, permanent resident, recognised refugee, special‑permit holder, or valid asylum seeker
  • No other benefits: You do not receive another personal SASSA grant, you are not receiving/eligible for UIF, and you are not on NSFAS
  • Insufficient means: You have very low or no income (SASSA confirms this via banks/SARS and other databases)
  • Correct details: You use your own ID and your own cellphone number for applications and OTPs

Banking details & payment method (SRD R370)

To receive your SRD R370 on time, make sure your payment method is set up correctly and the bank account is in your name.

  1. Go to the official SRD portal: srd.sassa.gov.za and find “How do I change my banking details?”
  2. Enter your ID number to receive a secure SMS link
  3. Tap the SMS link to open a secure page on the SASSA site
  4. Choose your payment option:
    • Bank account (recommended): Enter your own bank details (Bank, Account Number, Branch Code, Account Type)
    • Cash Send (if offered): Follow the instructions for retailer pickup using your registered mobile number
  5. Confirm and submit. SASSA will verify new details; your status may show “Bank Details Pending” during this time

Appeals for a declined SRD application

If your SRD application is declined for a month and you believe the decision is wrong, you can appeal to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) within 90 days for that month.

  1. Open the official appeals portal: srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals
  2. Enter your 13‑digit ID and the cellphone number on your application
  3. Click “Send Pin”, enter the OTP, and follow the prompts to view or submit your appeal

Appeals can take 60–90 days to review. Check your appeal status regularly on the portal. See our step‑by‑step: SRD Appeals Guide.

FAQ

How do I check SRD status online?
Use the status link: srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status or WhatsApp 082 054 0016. You’ll need your ID and the cellphone used to apply.
“350 status check balance” - how do I see money due?
Check monthly approvals on the website. Approved months not yet paid will be paid out; amounts are fixed at R370 per approved month.
Why is my SRD delayed?
Verification and batching. Ensure your bank details are correct and be patient during the 25–30th window.
Do I need to reapply every month?
No. Applications stay active, but you must keep details updated. Eligibility is checked monthly.
Is “srd status check” the same as “sassa status check”?
Yes — both refer to checking your monthly SRD grant result on the official SASSA portal.
Can I check SRD status on Moya / WhatsApp / USSD / GovChat?
These channels provide information or links. For authoritative month‑by‑month results and your payday, use srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status.
How do I check my SRD “balance”?
SRD isn’t a bank balance. Check approved months and payday on the SRD site. To see money in your account, use your bank app or ATM.
Approved but no payment date — what now?
Wait for batching in the monthly window, then allow 2–3 working days for bank reflection. Confirm your banking details are active and in your name.

Troubleshooting

SRD Approved but no money yet

If your status shows Approved but you have not received your money, it’s usually timing. SRD payments are processed in batches toward the end of the month, and banks can take 2–3 business days to reflect funds. Payments don’t run on weekends or public holidays. Check your status again after a few days. If it’s still not reflected 3 business days after it changes to Paid, confirm your bank details are correct and the account is active. You can also call 0800 60 10 11 for help.

SRD Declined this month

Common reasons include an income check showing more than R624, a UIF/NSFAS record, or a data mismatch. If you believe this is wrong, appeal within 90 days for that month and upload proof (for example, bank statements showing no income). Keep checking the appeal outcome online.

SASSA has asked you to reconfirm or update

If SASSA asks you to reconfirm your details, do it on the official site right away. If you changed banks, allow one payment cycle for the switch. You can update banking here: Change SRD Banking Details.

SASSA SRD Identity check failed - what to do

  • First check your details on the SRD site: ID, phone number, and bank account must be your own and correct
  • If all looks right, get help: call 0800 60 10 11 (free), email GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za, or open WhatsApp 082 054 0016
  • You will need your phone ready with an internet connection, a working camera, and the same number you used to apply
  • You may get two SMS links to take a face photo - follow them right away
  • Still stuck? If declined, you can appeal; you can also visit a SASSA office or ask trusted civic groups for help

Why haven’t I been paid?

  • Checks in progress: SASSA needs to check your information every month before they pay you. This includes checking if you have any income, making sure your ID and details are correct, and sometimes doing extra reviews called “Referred” checks. If these checks are not finished yet, your payment will be delayed until SASSA is done.
  • Bank account problems: If your bank account is closed, frozen, or the name on your account does not match your ID, SASSA cannot pay you. Sometimes, your bank details are still being checked or updated, which can also cause a delay. Make sure your bank account is open, active, and matches your details. You can update your banking details here: Change SRD Banking Details.
  • Lots of people applying: When many people apply for SRD at the same time, it can slow down the process for everyone. SASSA usually pays people in groups (called batches) near the end of the month, so you might have to wait a bit longer if there are lots of applications.
  • Identity steps not finished: Sometimes SASSA needs you to prove who you are by taking a face photo or doing a fingerprint check. If you get an SMS with a link for these steps, you must finish them quickly. If you do not, your payment will be delayed until you complete them. If you need help, call 0800 60 10 11 or email GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za.

Fix it: update your banking on the SRD site, complete any photo/biometric step, and call 0800 60 10 11 if your status stays stuck. Most payments run between the 25th and month‑end; banks can take 2–3 business days to reflect.

How long does identity verification take?

  • Taking the photo: a few minutes once you open the link
  • SASSA’s review: a few days to several weeks (sometimes up to 60–90 days for new cases)
  • Tips: use a clear, well‑lit photo; if your status shows “failed,” call 0800 60 10 11 or email GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za

How to change your phone number for SRD

  • Call 0800 60 10 11 and ask to update your phone number
  • SASSA will verify you and send a secure link via SMS
  • Open the link and take a quick selfie for security; updates usually take 24–48 hours

Cancel and apply again (reinstate)

  1. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and scroll to “reinstate online”
  2. Enter your ID and the phone number you used before
  3. Click “Send Pin,” enter the 6‑digit code, and follow the steps

Apply only once and on the official site. Applications for a month are usually decided before the middle of that month.
