SASSA SRD R370 Grant - Complete Guide (2026)
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is a monthly payment of R370 from SASSA for unemployed South Africans between 18 and 59 years old. It was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been extended annually since then. The grant is designed for people who have no income and are not receiving any other form of government support.
Unlike permanent SASSA grants such as the Old Age Grant or Child Support Grant, the SRD grant is reassessed every month. SASSA checks your eligibility against bank records, SARS, UIF, NSFAS, and Home Affairs databases. This means your status can change from month to month - you may be approved one month and declined the next if SASSA detects income or a change in your circumstances.
The SRD R370 is paid toward the end of each month, typically between the 24th and the last business day. Payments are made either to your bank account or via cash collection, depending on what you selected when you applied. If you have a bank account in your own name, that is the fastest and most reliable way to receive your grant.

How the SRD Grant Works
Once you apply on the official SRD website at srd.sassa.gov.za, your application stays active. You do not need to reapply every month. SASSA runs automated checks each month to determine if you still qualify. If you are approved, your payment is processed in batches toward the end of the month.
You can check your status online at any time to see whether you have been approved, are still pending, or have been declined for a given month. If you are declined, you have the right to appeal within 90 days.
