SASSA Status Approved: What It Means & When You'll Be Paid (2026)

Updated on 17 March 2026

You checked your SASSA SRD status and it says "Approved" - congratulations. This means SASSA has verified your information and confirmed that you qualify for the SRD R370 grant for that specific month. But what happens next? When will the money land in your account? And what if it says "Approved" but there's no payment date?

This guide explains exactly what an approved SRD status means, the typical timeline from approval to payment, and what to do if your money is delayed.

What Does "Approved" Mean on Your SRD Status Check?

When your SRD status shows Approved, it means SASSA has completed all verification checks for that month and determined that you are eligible for the R370 grant. The checks SASSA performs include:

  • Identity verification - your ID number was confirmed with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA)
  • Income check - SASSA checked your bank records and SARS data and found no income above the R624 threshold
  • Other benefits check - you are not registered on UIF, NSFAS, or receiving another SASSA grant
  • Age and residency - you are between 18 and 59 and reside in South Africa

An approved status applies to one specific month. SASSA assesses your eligibility every month, so you may see different statuses for different months. For example, you could be approved for March 2026 but pending or declined for April 2026 - each month is treated independently.

How Long Until You Get Paid After Approval?

After your status changes to Approved, payment follows during the SRD payment window, which typically runs from the 25th to the end of the month. Here is the typical timeline:

  1. Status changes to Approved - this can happen anytime during the month as SASSA processes verifications
  2. Payment date assigned - SASSA schedules your payment within the 25th to month-end window. The specific date appears on your status check page
  3. SASSA releases payment - funds are sent to your bank or Cash Send on the assigned date
  4. Money reflects in your account - your bank may take 2 to 3 business days to process and reflect the payment. Weekends and public holidays are not business days

In total, from the moment your status shows Approved, it can take anywhere from a few days to about two weeks for the money to reflect, depending on where in the month you were approved and how quickly your bank processes the transfer.

SASSA Approved But No Payment Date - Why This Happens

One of the most common concerns is seeing "Approved" on your SRD status but no payment date next to it. This is normal and happens because:

  • Payments are batched - SASSA does not pay everyone on the same day. Payments are processed in batches across multiple business days during the payment window. Your batch may not have been scheduled yet
  • Early in the payment cycle - if you check your status before the 25th, a payment date may not yet be assigned even though you are approved
  • System delays - during busy periods or when the SRD portal is under heavy load, payment date updates may take longer to reflect on the status page

What to do: Be patient and check your status again after a day or two. The payment date usually appears as SASSA works through the batches. If you still see no payment date after the end of the month, it is time to contact SASSA (see the escalation section below).

Approved But No Payment - Troubleshooting

If your SRD status has been Approved and a payment date was assigned but you still have not received the money, here are the most common causes and fixes:

1. Banking details are incorrect or outdated

This is the number one reason for delayed payments after approval. If your bank account number is wrong, the account is closed, or the account name does not match your ID, SASSA's payment will fail. To fix this:

  • Log into the SRD portal at srd.sassa.gov.za and check your banking details
  • Update your details if needed - see our banking details guide for step-by-step instructions
  • Make sure the bank account is in your name and active

2. Bank processing time

Even after SASSA releases your payment, your bank needs time to process it. Most banks take 2 to 3 business days. Some banks, particularly for Cash Send, may take slightly longer. Business days exclude weekends and public holidays.

3. Cash Send not collected

If you chose Cash Send as your payment method, the money is available for a limited time at participating retailers. If you don't collect it within the specified period, it may be returned. Check your SMS messages for the collection reference and collect as soon as possible.

4. Payment returned or bounced

If SASSA's payment was returned by your bank (for example, because the account was closed), SASSA will attempt to re-process it. This can add another 5 to 10 business days. You can speed this up by updating your banking details and calling SASSA.

5. Identity verification still processing

In some cases, your status may show Approved but an additional identity check (such as a selfie or biometric verification) is still pending behind the scenes. Complete any SMS-linked verification steps immediately when you receive them.

How to Check Your SASSA Payment Date

Once your SRD status is approved and a payment date is assigned, you can see it by:

  1. Going to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
  2. Entering your 13-digit ID number and cellphone number
  3. Clicking Submit
  4. Looking for the payment date next to the approved month

The payment date shown is the date SASSA releases the funds. Add 2-3 business days for the money to reflect in your bank account.

When to Escalate - Getting Help from SASSA

Contact SASSA directly if any of these apply:

  • Your status has been Approved for more than 5 business days after the payment window ended and you still have not received money
  • Your status shows a payment date but more than 5 business days have passed since that date with no money in your account
  • Your banking details are correct but the payment still has not reflected
  • You received an SMS about a failed payment or returned funds

Understanding Other SRD Statuses

Your status may differ from month to month. Here's what each status means:

  • Approved - you qualify and payment will follow (this page)
  • Pending - SASSA is still verifying your details for that month. Processing time varies
  • Declined - you were not approved for that month. A reason will be given and you can appeal within 90 days
  • Approved - No Pay Date - approved but payment batch not yet scheduled (explained above)
  • Paid - SASSA has released your payment. Allow 2-3 business days for bank reflection

Tips to Avoid Payment Delays

  • Keep your banking details updated - if you change banks, update your details immediately on the SRD portal
  • Use a bank account in your own name - SASSA cannot pay into someone else's account
  • Complete identity verification steps promptly - respond to any SMS from SASSA asking for a selfie or biometric check right away
  • Reconfirm your SRD grant when required - SASSA periodically requires you to reconfirm your details. Missing this can delay or stop your payment
  • Don't apply more than once - duplicate applications can cause processing delays
  • Check your status regularly - use the official status check page to stay informed
