Updated on 09 May 2026

Disability Grant Payment Dates - May 2026 and June 2026

SASSA pays disability grants on the second working day of each month, after old age pensions. Upcoming dates:

  • May 2026: disability pays Wednesday, 6 May 2026
  • June 2026: disability pays Wednesday, 3 June 2026
  • July 2026: disability pays Friday, 3 July 2026

Payments happen in this order: Older Persons → Disability → Children & Others. If you bank with Postbank/Allpay, your money should be available on the date shown.

How much you get (2025)

The Disability Grant pays R2 400 per month.

October update: From April 2026, grant amounts increased per the February 2026 Budget. Old Age (60-74), Disability, and Care Dependency rise to R2,400; Old Age (75+) and War Veterans to R2,420. Child Support increases to R580, Foster Care to R1,290, and Grant-in-Aid to R580. SRD remains at R370.

Who qualifies?

  • You must be 18-59 years old and have a disability, medically certified, that makes you unfit for work.
  • You need to meet the income and assets tests (similar to the Old Age Grant thresholds).
  • You cannot receive another personal grant at the same time.

Temporary vs permanent

  • Temporary: This is granted for 6-12 months. If your condition continues, you will need to re‑apply before it ends.
  • Permanent: This is for long‑term conditions. SASSA may still review your grant from time to time.

Medical assessment

You will need a recent medical report (usually not older than 3 months). SASSA may also ask their own medical officer to review your case before approval.

Documents you need

  • Please bring your ID (or a temporary ID/affidavit if your ID is lost).
  • Bring your recent medical report (not older than 3 months).
  • Bring proof of income and assets if you have any (bank statements, pension slips).
  • Bank account details are recommended for easier payments.
  • Proof of residence helps, if available.

How to apply

  1. Visit a SASSA office with your ID, recent medical report (≤3 months), proof of income/assets, and bank details.
  2. An official will help you complete the form and capture your documents. Ask if anything is unclear.
  3. Keep your receipt. The outcome is usually given within 90 days. If approved, back‑pay from your application date is included.

Payments & reviews

  • See the current Disability pay date here: SASSA Payment Dates.
  • Please respond to any review requests from SASSA to avoid suspension.
  • If your grant is temporary, note the end date and re‑apply early if you still qualify.

Grant‑in‑Aid (extra help)

If you already receive a Disability Grant and you need full‑time care, you may qualify for an extra R580 per month (Grant‑in‑Aid). You will need a doctor’s report to apply.
