SASSA Grant Eligibility Calculator

We run your answers against the official SASSA means-test thresholds for each grant type. For every grant, we check:

• Age: SRD is 18-59, Old Age is 60+ (with a higher amount at 75+), Child Support and Care Dependency are for caregivers 18+.
• Citizenship: SA citizen, permanent resident, recognised refugee, or valid asylum seeker (asylum is only accepted for SRD).
• Income test: annual income (your monthly figure x12) compared to the single or married threshold for each grant.
• Asset test: total assets (excluding your primary home) compared to the threshold - applies to Old Age, Disability, War Veterans.
• Other grants / income: SRD is blocked if you receive another SASSA grant, UIF, NSFAS, or are a government employee. Main grants cannot be combined (Grant in Aid is the one add-on).

What we cannot check: the medical assessment required for Disability, War Veterans and Care Dependency, the court order required for Foster Care, and the SARS / bank database verification SASSA performs at application time. The calculator flags these grants as "if additional criteria met".

The official SASSA portal asks you to submit an application before it tells you whether you qualify - and a declined application costs you a trip to SASSA, time off work, and weeks waiting for an outcome. Most applicants we hear from don't know that the R624 SRD income threshold is the food poverty line, or that being on UIF auto-disqualifies SRD, or that the Old Age and Disability income tests are about R9,000/month single. This calculator surfaces those rules up-front so you can apply for the right grant - or appeal a wrong decline knowing where you stand.
