SRD Declined - Bank Account Verification Failed
Updated on 14 June 2026
If your SASSA SRD status shows "Bank Account Verification Failed", "Banking Details Verification Failed" or just "Bank Verification Failed", your application was actually approved - SASSA just cannot pay you because something is wrong with the bank account you submitted. The most common cause is a typo in the account number. Once you fix the banking details on the SRD portal, the money flows.
What this means
When SASSA tries to pay your approved SRD R370, the bank does a verification check on three things:
- Account number - must match a real, active account at the named bank.
- Branch code - must match the universal branch code for that bank.
- Account-holder name - must match the ID and full names on your SRD application.
If any of these fail, the payment cannot be released. Your SRD stays approved - the money just sits there until you update the details correctly.
Common causes
- Typo in the account number - the most common cause by far.
- Wrong branch code - especially if you used a branch-specific code instead of the universal one.
- Account closed or dormant - banks close inactive accounts after 6 to 12 months.
- Account in someone else's name - spouse, parent, sibling - SASSA only pays into your account.
- Name mismatch - your bank account shows initials, but SASSA has your full names (or vice versa). Some banks reject on this.
- Joint or business account - SASSA only pays personal accounts.
- Bank rejected the verification - sometimes the bank's system is down or the account is on hold.
How to fix it
- Step 1: Log in to srd.sassa.gov.za with your ID number and registered phone. Verify with OTP.
- Step 2: Go to "Update Banking Details" (or directly to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/banking).
- Step 3: Double-check your account number against your bank card or statement. Be careful with 0 vs O and 1 vs l.
- Step 4: Use the universal branch code for your bank: FNB 250655, Standard Bank 051001, ABSA 632005, Nedbank 198765, Capitec 470010, TymeBank 678910, African Bank 430000, Postbank 460005.
- Step 5: Make sure the account is in your name and active. If it is not, open a new account first (Capitec, TymeBank and Postbank are quick and low-cost).
- Step 6: Submit. Wait 1 to 2 payment cycles for the new details to be re-verified and payment to release.

Requirements:
