Public Holiday & Weekend Adjustments - March 2025

If a SASSA payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday, it moves to the next business day. This can cause a chain reaction - if the old age grant date shifts, disability and children's grants shift too.

Long weekends (like Easter, Freedom Day, or Workers' Day) can push dates forward by several days. Always check the confirmed dates in the table above rather than assuming the usual pattern. SASSA confirms adjusted dates on their website and social media pages before each month.

How SASSA Determines Payment Dates

SASSA follows a fixed pattern each month to decide when grants are paid. The old age grant (pension) is always paid on the 2nd working day of the month. Disability grants follow on the 3rd working day, and children’s grants on the 4th. Working days exclude weekends and South African public holidays.

When a public holiday falls near the start of the month, the entire schedule shifts forward. For example, if the 2nd working day would fall on Good Friday or Freedom Day, it moves to the next available business day. This shift cascades to all other grant types. SASSA publishes the full year’s schedule in advance, but individual months may be adjusted if the calendar changes.

The SRD R370 grant follows a different schedule. It is processed in batches towards month-end, typically between the 24th and 30th, on business days only. Each beneficiary’s exact date depends on when SASSA processes their payment batch.

Where to Collect Your SASSA Grant - March 2025

There are several ways to collect your SASSA grant payment. You do not have to collect on the exact payment date - your money remains available for collection afterwards.

  • ATM (any bank): Use your SASSA/Postbank Gold Card at any ATM in South Africa. You can withdraw your full grant or a portion. Be aware of bank fees for non-Postbank ATMs.
  • Post Office: Visit any South African Post Office branch with your Gold Card and ID document. Post Offices in busy areas may have long queues on payment day - try visiting a day or two later.
  • Allpay community pay points: Allpay is SASSA’s network of community-based payment points, often found in community halls, churches, and shopping centres. Allpay dates follow the same SASSA schedule listed above. Ask your local SASSA office or ward councillor for the nearest Allpay point.
  • Retailers: Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, and some Spar stores allow cashback with your SASSA card. This is often quicker than the Post Office.
  • Bank account: If your grant is paid into a personal bank account (not a Gold Card), it reflects on the payment date. You can then withdraw or use it as normal.

What Is Allpay? (Pension and Grant Collection Points)

Many people search for "Allpay dates" when looking for SASSA payment dates. Allpay is the name of SASSA’s community-based payment system - a network of temporary pay points set up in communities across South Africa on grant payment days. These are sometimes called "pension points" or "grant collection points".

Allpay dates are the same as the official SASSA payment dates listed at the top of this page. Old age pensioners collect first, followed by disability grant beneficiaries, then children’s grant recipients. If you normally collect at an Allpay point, confirm with your local pay point or ward councillor that the schedule has not changed, especially during months with public holidays.

If You Are Not Paid on Time - March 2025

If your grant does not arrive on the expected date, here is what to do depending on your grant type:

Old Age, Disability, or Children’s Grants

  1. Confirm the correct payment date in the table above - public holidays may have shifted it.
  2. If collecting at a pay point or Post Office, check that you have the right date and location.
  3. If paid into a bank account, allow 1-2 business days for the bank to process.
  4. Make sure your SASSA Gold Card or bank account is active and not expired.
  5. If still no payment after 3 business days, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 (toll-free) or visit your nearest SASSA office.

SRD R370 Grant

  1. SRD payments are batched between the 24th and 30th - your date may differ from others.
  2. After the batch is processed, banks take 2-3 business days to reflect the funds.
  3. Make sure your banking details are correct and the account is in your name. You can update them at srd.sassa.gov.za.
  4. If still not received after the payment window, call 0800 60 10 11.

Understanding SASSA Grant Types and Payment Order

SASSA pays grants in a specific order each month. Here is who gets paid when:

  • Day 1 - Old Age Pension (Older Persons Grant): Pensioners aged 60 and older are paid first. This is often called the "pension date" or "old age pension date". Amount: R2 315 (60-74) or R2 335 (75+).
  • Day 2 - Disability Grant: People with permanent disabilities are paid the next working day. Amount: R2 315.
  • Day 3 - Children & Others: This includes the child support grant (R560), foster child grant (R1 250), care dependency grant (R2 315), grant-in-aid (R560), and war veterans grant.
  • Month-end - SRD R370: The Social Relief of Distress grant is paid separately, usually between the 24th and 30th of each month.
